ACS Walk & Roll 2017

Great Skate Start Pic Team rainbo

The weather was a little chilly, but the sun was shining and a few last minute arrivals helped to give us a pretty good presence at the Walk and Roll. Spirits were hi at the event, and everyone was looking forward to get moving. Once we got going, we all stayed together for the first 1/2 mile or so and then broke up into two groups. Larry, Herb, Jason, Margo, Andrew, Ted and John Silker picked up the pace, and I headed up the second group with Jim , Doriana, Leeza (former member visiting from Dominican Republic), and Mary Ann.

Once we skated along for a while we saw a stranger up ahead wearing our new uniform! It was the mysterious, rarely seen, Chicagoan… Kevin O’Neill. He has been a member every year since many years ago, and graced us with his appearance. We really wish that we would join us for some more skating now and then because he is a lot of fun and a great athlete! Great Skate Start Pic Team rainboOnce we made it to the 1/2 way point (with a terrific tailwind), it was time to turn around and make the hard push home into the wind. Big “wide load” John Silker joined the B group to help pull us home. His help was appreciated and after some tough skating, we crossed the finish line holding hands and smiling and laughing. It really was a great time for all. Check out the attachment to see some of us.
After the skating was over, many of us went to Uncle Julio’s for the annual lunch. To everyone’s surprise and delight Team Rainbo picked up the tab as a thank you for coming down and supporting the cause and the event. Thank you to those participants below and to some of Jason and Andrews family who signed up to do the walk and support the cause.
