Starykowicz Wins A2A! Turek Makes Another Strong Showing

We’re extremely proud to announce Peter Starykowicz’s victory at the 2008 Athens to Atlanta race. In a loaded field of very strong skaters, including Bont’s Mike Anderson and Luis Carlos Mejia and Twincam’s Eddy Matzger, Team Rainbo’s Peter Starykowicz edged out Mejia for his first victory in the grueling 89 mile race.

Said Starykowicz, “I came here to win, so this really feels good.”

In the women’s field, Team Rainbo’s Marcy Turek took 3rd place, yet another strong showing. Team Rainbo founder Cale Carvell was ecstatic:

“I cannot tell you just how proud I am of the unbelievable showing by our own Pete Starykowicz, Marcie Turek, Bob Ryan, and Tom Grosspietsch.  Petey WINNING!   Wow…..major, mucho, impressive.  It just goes to show how practice, desire, and an ability to push through pain pays off.  Petey was skating against some world class skaters and showed that he has officially arrived!

It will be hard to keep him in a Team Rainbo uniform after this…..Skating companies might be looking to get him on their team.  I certainly wouldn’t blame them, or him, however we will do all we can to keep him in the fold.   Marcy continues to show what long distance skating is all about.  She is always there, right near the top, pushing the pace, great job Marcy.

Bob Ryan and Tom Grosspietsch make the trip most every year, and continue to show that they have the right stuff to grind out another Athens to Atlanta race.  Bob Ryan finished a great year and with this race moves into the top 50 overall miles.

To have the first place man and third place women from Team Rainbo at one of the most prestigious and famous races, brings great attention and credibility to the team.  We all thank you guys for giving us all something to smile about and be proud and full of awe at the same time.”
